Geodis Wilson uses TrueMobile to track and trace shipments in real time and to discover issues with damaged goods
Thanks to TrueMobile from Optidev, Geodis Wilson offers the capability to track and trace its shipments with a real time connection to the company’s online Freight Monitor service. By using mobile computers, Geodis Wilson now is able to verify shipments before they are loaded into a container. This reduces errors and costly delays. Furthermore, Geodis Wilson has access to real-time data about the shipments’ status and can better prepare for the discharge and proactively seek resolutions if goods are damaged or delayed during transit.

TrueMobile from Optidev is a mobility service with everything included at a fixed monthly cost per user – including M3, a Windows CE-based mobile computer with built-in scanner and camera, GPRS data plan, GPS module, database with FTP connection to Geodis Wilson’s Freight Monitor, application software, 24-hour exchange service and support.
The mobile computer is used to scan freight documents at such critical checkpoints as pickup, departure from terminal and delivery. The recipient confirms the delivery by signing directly on the mobile computer screen. The signature is stored as an image and transmitted in real time to the central tracking system. |

"TrueMobile is a flexible solution, and it provides better value than other solutions that we evaluated"

The built-in camera is used to take photos of damaged goods and to reveal how containers are loaded. All captured data is time-stamped and can also be associated with GPS data to indicate exact positions. The mobile computer uses the GPRS network to communicate, and all data is immediately available in Geodis Wilson’s Freight Monitor system. This information helps Geodis Wilson and its customers make sure the right resources are available for discharge. Additionally, it allows them to evaluate the extent of any damage and proactively address any issues.
“TrueMobile is a flexible solution, and it provides better value than other solutions that we evaluated,” says Martin Nordblom, IT director of Geodis Wilson in the Nordic and Baltic region. “TrueMobile improves the quality of our services and enables us to work more proactively to address problems before they occur.”
“TrueMobile is a module-based solution, and customers pay only for the functions they need,” says Tommy Vestlie, president of Optidev. “TrueMobile provides the customer full control over the costs, and it is easy to add more functions or users if needed.”
The new mobile computing system is used both by Geodis Wilson-operated distribution hubs and by its transportation partners that lack their own systems for “track and trace.” Today, TrueMobile is used by Geodis Wilson in Sweden, Austria, Italy and the USA.
